The rules every date is checked against

    Marriage nakṣatras

Rohiṇī, Mṛgaśirā, Maghā, Uttara Phalgunī, Hasta, Svātī, Anurādhā, Mūla, Uttara Āṣāḍhā, Uttara Bhādrapadā and Revatī. Each day is scanned from sunrise to sunrise, and you see when the good window starts and ends in your city's local time.

    Tithi

Amāvasyā is avoided. Riktā tithis (4th, 9th and 14th) count against a day, because many families avoid them.

    Kharmas

No dates while the Sun is in sidereal Dhanu or Mīna, roughly mid-December to mid-January and mid-March to mid-April.

    Venus and Jupiter

No dates while Venus (Śukra) or Jupiter (Guru) is combust, that is, too close to the Sun to be seen.

    Adhika māsa and Chaturmas

The extra lunar month is left out. Chaturmas, from Devśayanī to Devutthāna Ekādaśī, is skipped too unless you untick it.

    Your city

Tithi and nakṣatra are read at local sunrise in the city you choose, as in a printed pañcāṅga, with that city's time zone and daylight time.

How we checked it: we compared Muhūrta with a published 2027 vivāha calendar for Delhi. It found 85 of that calendar's 87 dates. The two it missed have their window after midnight, which that calendar lists under the next day. Traditions differ, so please confirm your final choice with your family's priest or jyotiṣī.

    Choose city and months

The city sets the sunrise and local time. The months keep the list to dates that work for your families and venues.

    Questions

    Is it free?

Your best date, its time window and the number of good dates in your range are free. To see every date with its reasons, plus the date card and calendar export, choose the Wedding Pass (CAD $39 once, plus tax, 60 days of full access) or the founding membership (CAD $69 per year plus tax, for all occasions, with two-chart matching first when it arrives). Both have a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Why do you need my city?

A tithi or nakṣatra can change at any hour. The same calendar date can count as a good day in Toronto and not in Delhi, and the window times differ too. Choosing the city where the wedding will happen makes the dates right for that place.

My town isn't in the list.

Choose the nearest larger city. Within the same metro area, sunrise and the nakṣatra window move by a minute or two at most.

Do I need our birth charts?

Not for this list. These dates follow the general vivāha rules that apply to everyone. Adding a birth chart then shows which of them also suit you personally. Weighing both partners' charts together is the next feature we're building.

Does it choose the exact hour of the ceremony?

It shows the window when a marriage nakṣatra is in force on each day. Choosing the exact lagna for the ceremony isn't built yet. Your priest can choose that inside the window.

Why might a date differ from our family calendar?

Regional traditions vary on details such as how combustion is timed, which day a late-night window belongs to, and extra rules some calendars apply. Muhūrta shows its reason for every date so you can compare.
